BEng Mechatronic Engineering
Introduction to the Program
The Bachelor’s in Mechatronic Engineering at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is a three or four year undergraduate degree program taught in English.
About UNNC
The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. Established in 2004, with the full approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education, we are run by The University of Nottingham with cooperation from Zhejiang Wanli Education Group, a key player in the education sector in China.
The University of Nottingham is in the top one percent of more than 7,500 higher education institutions worldwide and league tables consistently rank the University highly. For more info visit the page here.
About the Program
Mechatronic Engineering draws on expertise and professional skills of various fields to evolve into a very specific specialisation in its own right. Modern industrial and technological development has seen the evolution of complex, intelligent machines that have moving parts, controlled by software-dependent electronic devices that lead to the emergence of this multi-disciplinary engineering profession. In Mechatronic Engineering, new technologies in automation and robotics are explored and utilised, allowing tasks in hazardous environments or precise positioning to be accomplished for the benefits of health, safety, society and economy. There is indeed growing interest and demand in the industry for professional Mechatronic Engineers in recent years.
This course aims to ensure that students will acquire the basic knowledge and understanding of the scientific base of mechatronics that will permit them to practise as professional mechatronic engineers. You will develop sufficient competence in mathematics to allow analysis of complex problems in mechatronics and develop an understanding of the development of mechatronic systems and manufacturing process. And you will be introduced to have the skills required to design mechatronic systems and be able to communicate both orally and in writing with technical and non-technical colleagues in the workplace and beyond. Students are introduced to work in a group, which will enable them to work in professional teams and have a high level of practical skill in information technology. This course is also partial fulfilment of the educational requirement for Chartered Engineer status.
Course Structure
All years are delivered in China at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
Year One (Preliminary year – Ningbo)

Designed by highly-experienced staff at the University’s Centre for English Language Education, this programme prepares students fully for their degree courses. Common modules of study across all degrees include:
- written and oral communication and study skills
- sciences such as physics and chemistry maths for engineering and computer science
-
engineering communication and IT skills. This module will have a hands-on approach to ensure competency in: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Additionally, the module involves the use of a software environment (eg MATLAB) to help solve engineering and mathematical problems related concepts and methods studied during the year while introducing programming technical material in drawing, schematic and graphical format.
Students work in small groups to develop their academic English language skills.
Year Two (Qualifying Year-Ningbo)
Compulsory modules
Students must take all modules in this group
Year Three (Part I-Ningbo)
Compulsory modules
