What motivated you to pursue a BSc in Information Management and Information Systems?
My love of business and coding is what drove me to pursue a BSc in Information Management and Information Systems. I have always been enthralled with the complex world of programming and have taken pleasure in solving problems using lines of code. At the same time, I’ve always had a strong interest in business dynamics and how companies function and make strategic choices to succeed.Choosing this programme made sense since it combines my two passions in a way that no other programme could. One thing that really drew my attention was the concept of teaching technology and business equally (50% – 50%). This programme gives me the opportunity to develop my technical skills while also making sure I have the tools I need to make a significant contribution to the business world. As the awardee of the Academic Merit Scholarship for international undergraduate student, how did you achieve the academic excellence?
One of the key factors that played a pivotal role in achieving academic excellence was my proactive approach to seeking assistance when needed. Recognizing the wealth of knowledge that professors and teaching assistants possess, I consistently reached out for guidance and clarification. Whether faced with challenging concepts or in need of additional insights, I embraced the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions.Furthermore, I actively participated in utilizing available resources, attending office hours, and joining study groups to enhance collaborative learning. By creating a welcoming learning atmosphere, I was able to take use of peers’ varied viewpoints in addition to the knowledge of teachers. This cooperative approach created an environment of mutual support and shared information, which greatly aided in my academic progress. 
How has receiving the scholarship impacted your academic journey so far?
Receiving the scholarship has had a profound impact on my academic journey, serving as a powerful motivator that has fueled my determination to study harder and excel in my coursework. The scholarship has given me a sense of pride and success since it has validated that my hard work and commitment to academic endeavors have not gone unappreciated. This acknowledgment has become a driving force, compelling me to set higher academic standards for myself and strive for continuous improvement in my studies. As an international student from Indonesia, what challenges have you faced while studying abroad and how have you overcome them?
As an international student studying abroad, I have faced some challenges, all of which I have overcome with bravery and flexibility. One notable challenge has been the adjustment to a new cultural and social environment. The cultural differences, ranging from social norms to communication styles, initially posed a learning curve. However, by making friends with local students and taking part in community events, I get a better understanding of the local culture and create connections, transforming what I initially felt like a challenge into an opportunity for personal development and cross-cultural enrichment. Can you share any memorable experiences or achievements during your time in the BSc IMIS programme?
One of the most gratifying achievements during my studies was securing a position among the top three highest marks in one of the challenging modules. Striving for excellence in this module required extensive study, thorough comprehension of complex theories, and the application of practical skills. The recognition of attaining a top-tier performance not only brought a sense of personal achievement but also served as a testament to the effectiveness of my study strategies and commitment to mastering the material. This experience not only bolstered my confidence in my academic abilities but also highlighted the value of perseverance and diligence in the pursuit of educational goals.
How has your experience in this programme helped shape your career goals and aspirations?
My experiences at university have further motivated me to seek a career in the intersection of technology and business, where I can use my abilities to spur innovation, expedite procedures, and contribute to organizational success. The programme has instilled in me a passion for leveraging information management to solve real-world challenges, and I am eager to apply these insights and skills in a professional setting, aligning my career trajectory with the dynamic and impactful nature of the information management field. Lastly, what advice would you give to other international students considering pursuing a degree in a similar field?
The first piece of advice I would provide to other international students thinking about getting an IMIS degree is definitely to get more involved with your classmates and the community. This can broaden your comprehension of many viewpoints and also improve your entire university experience. Secondly, proactively seek support when faced with challenges, whether academic or personal. This, in my opinion, can have a big impact on your success and wellbeing. Furthermore, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification or guidance from professors or teaching assistants when needed. Lastly, immerse yourself in practical experiences, such as internships, research projects, or industrial partnerships. This hands-on approach not only reinforces theoretical knowledge but also provides valuable insights into the real-world applications of information management and systems.
