Eligibility
As Tsinghua is the top university in China, eligibility standards are extremely high. At the minimum you need excellent grades and Chinese/English proficiency.
- Aged 18 or above (by September 1, 2024). For the applicants under 18, please bring the relevant supporting documents to the official registration
- Foreign nationality
Foreign citizens, in good physical and mental health, friendly to China, and awarded a certificate of graduation from high school.- If you used to be a Chinese citizen/parents are Chinese citizens, click here to learn more.
- Outstanding academic performance
Proof should be provided through (but not limited to) the following document(s):- High school/University (if applicable) transcripts (in Chinese or English).
- Certificate of National/Regional Graduation Examination/Matriculation Examination.
- Results of international standard tests (e.g. SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB/others) or International STEM Test (THUSSAT International STEM Test/ TIST/others).
- Other supporting materials.
- Language proficiency
- HSK Level 5 or higher, with each subject scoring over 60 points. HSK Level 4 is acceptable, but you must reach Level 5 within the first academic year. Native Chinese speakers or those with proof of Chinese high school education can apply for an HSK test waiver.
- Good English language proficiency. For those non native English speakers, provide score report of English language test (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/others).
Application Documents for Tsinghua
- Passport (minimum validity 1 year, 2 pages in one scan)
- Photo (white background)
- Complete high school transcripts
- High school diploma (or pre-graduation letter, for students who will graduate in mid-2023)
- Certificate of national matriculation (if any)
- Result of international standardized test (SAT / IB / A-level / ACT / International STEM test)
- HSK 5 certificate (or above), taken within the last 2 years
- Bank statement (or financial statement, salary slip from the sponsor)
- Personal statement
- Written in Chinese, if applying for Chinese-taught programs
- Two recommendation letters from high school teacher
- Must include the teacher’s name, contact number, email address, institution name, relationship with the applicant
- Both teachers must submit the recommendation letter through Tsinghua’s link before the application deadline (link will be sent from Tsinghua’s online application portal)
- Introduction Video
- 3 minutes long in total, students must introduce themselves in both English and Chinese
- File: MP4, max. 20MB
- Financial sponsor form
- Must be signed by the financial sponsor
- Download from Tsinghua online application portal
- Curriculum vitae
- With a list of student’s educational background from primary school, middle school, and high school; work or internship experiences; awards; hobbies; etc.

Tsinghua University Application Process 2024
- Online Application
- application fee (800 RMB)
- Comprehensive Evaluation
- Application Review (Applications submitted with all the information correct and completed will be evaluated by Tsinghua University.)
- Integrative Test (Applicants who have passed the Application Review will be admitted to the integrative test. The method and time of the integrative test will be informed in advance. Test(s) for Arts Division applicants will be notified in advance. Applicants who apply for Architecture Division will go through the portfolio review.
- Admission Decision and Offer
Admission decisions are determined through a comprehensive evaluation that considers academic performance, language proficiency, supporting materials, and an integrative test.
