Hello, I am Richard, from the UK and founder of China Admissions.
I started learning Chinese a few years ago, and now I am preparing for HSK 6. I have wasted a lot of time learning Chinese inefficiently, so I would like to share some tips to learn Chinese better.
The one app I wish I had when I started is the Anki App. It would have saved me so much time.
It is super challenging to learn Chinese characters and it can be a bit daunting and dull.
Fortunately, the Anki App uses a clever system of spaced repetition. You can easily remember the characters efficiently. It reminds you at just the point you are going to forget it.
It plays the sound as well, and after you have seen the word, you can mark if you knew it, or if you didn’t. It will then remind you in the future in a certain amount of time.
You can just download the app, and then download the HSK 6 word list (5000 characters).
Download the Anki App here:

Download the HSK 6 word list:

You will need to install it on your computer, upload the word list there, then export to your phone.
The app is totally free.
One of the things I like about it the most is that it tracks your analytics. You can see the time you spent on it and how many characters you already know. It is super motivating for learners.
Vocabulary is one of the most important aspects in learning a language. If you can master the vocabulary, you can then focus your time on improving the other aspects of your language.
Now, I find reading, recognising and memorising Chinese characters totally effortless. And with such a large foundation the other parts are also a lot easier.
