Taiwanese High School Students Delegation Visits XJTLU

Two groups of teachers and student representatives from Keelong Er Xin High School in Taiwan, totaling more than 80 people, visited Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University on June 6th and July 2nd. The event was meticulously organized by the XJTLU X-Global Office, who personally accompanied the students, aiming to provide them with a deep understanding of the academic and research charm of XJTLU campus.

Upon arrival, the students eagerly stepped into Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University with excitement and anticipation, embarking on a campus tour. They engaged in a lively biology experiment experience in the Science Building, arranged jointly by the XJTLU X-Global Office and the School of Science. In the Biology Teaching Lab, Dr. Antony Kam vividly explained the DNA gel electrophoresis experiment, capturing the students’ undivided attention as they seemed to be immersed in a mysterious world of biological science. Under the careful guidance of Lab Manager Ms. Bingjie Jiang, professional mentors led the students through the entire experimental process, from sample preparation to gel loading and result interpretation. DNA gel electrophoresis, as a powerful laboratory technique, enables the analysis and separation of DNA fragments based on their size and charge, providing valuable insights into genetic variations, DNA sequencing, and more through the application of an electric field to observe the movement of DNA in the gel matrix.

Following this, the students embarked on a tour of the Design School. Along the way, they strolled from the North Campus to the South Campus, admiring the campus scenery and experiencing the strong academic atmosphere of the university. Academic staff of the Design School warmly welcomed the students, showcasing the school’s style and innovative spirit, allowing the students to feel the boundless possibilities of university education. The reception team included Dr. Ominda Nanayakkara, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering; Dr. Cheng Zhang, Senior Associate Professor; Dr. Bowen Xu, Assistant Professor; Dr. Qiaoyan Lin, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Jian Chen, Technical Manager of the Design School.

Subsequently, the student group visited the Academy of Film and Creative Technology. The teaching building is based on the composition model of internationally renowned film academies and is equipped with facilities including medium and large-scale shooting studios for indoor filming and green screen special effects production, model making, and motion capture experiments. The teaching building has independent editing and post-production studios, allowing students to start from basic post-production and progress to professional color grading and sound mixing to produce works suitable for screening in cinemas. The teaching building also features a 180-seat cinema for screening student works and classic films from home and abroad. The students visited some of the studios and were greatly impressed by the advanced teaching facilities. The highlight for the students was their participation as both guests and audience in the recording of a game show event in the TV production studio.

This campus visits not only broadened the horizons of the students from Keelong Er Xin High School in Taiwan but also provided them with an unforgettable experience. Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University will continue to organize every campus visit with excellence, building more bridges for academic exchanges and presenting a broader world to young students.
