Study in China from Bangladesh like Das and experience world-class education from one of the most prestigious universities in China – Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
Let Das take you to his journey in China and read his simple, but effective trick to overcome the language barrier when you study in China!
Hi, please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Das, from Bangladesh. After graduating from high school in Bangladesh, I moved to Canada for college studies. I then moved to China at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
Why did you decide to study in China when you were already in Canada?
First of all, I want to live close to my family. Second, China is modern and the cost of living is not so expensive. China is a center of business and I plan to do business in the future.
Is this your first time in China?
I have been here before but it was only in the airport because of my flight transit. It’s my first time living in China and I like it very much.
How long have you been in China and why do you like living in China?
I’ve been here for eight months and I really like it so far. The people are so nice!
In the beginning, I had problems with the language. Later on, I discovered it’s not really a problem because there are translators. If you know a few things, there are basic tricks and if you know that, its easy to live in China.
What do you like most about living in China?
I love the lifestyle in China. There are apps like Taobao. Basically, if you want, you can just sit at home and use online apps. Transportation in China is convenient. You just need to find the nearest subway station and you can go anywhere in the city, and the buses are pretty great.
Have you traveled to other parts of China besides Beijing?
Yes, I’ve traveled to Pingyao for our immersion week for IBS. I also visited Tianjin, Shandong province and Jinan. Recently, I have been to Hefei.
Can you tell me more about your experience in BFSU, and what program you’re studying?
One of my friends, who used to live in Beijing, suggested that I should study at BFSU. I researched online and I came to know what BFSU is all about so I decided to apply.
I’m so grateful that they accepted me at BFSU and I’m a student here. One of the most important things I like about BFSU is the diversity. There are students from so many countries and some, I did not even know existed.
I also learned a lot about other cultures as well as the people. It’s definitely something new for me. On the other hand, my classmates are really nice and the professors are so helpful. I’m enjoying my studies at BFSU and my stay in China so far.
Do you have Bangladeshi friends studying at BFSU?
Yes, I do have some Bangladeshi friends. We actually hang out once in a while.
As you said, BFSU is a diverse university. Do you have friends that have other nationalities? What do you think is the benefit of having friends from different parts of the world?
I love to travel a lot, so sometimes I go to their countries and I just call them up and say, “Hey, I’m here!”.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation, I’d like to find a job in China. I heard that for international students and fresh graduates, China offers good opportunities.
Any advice for fellow Bangladesh students or other international friends who are considering to study in China?
For my Bangladeshi friends, think outside the box. Some students think they’ll encounter language problems in China so my advice is to overcome it.
