5- Follow the footsteps of China’s most famous directors
Some of China’s most famous and stirring films have been produced by Beijing Film Academy graduates. Zhang Yimou, the director of the globally renowned movies Hero, To Live, Raise the Red Lantern, and House of Flying Daggers, graduated from BFA.
Other notable alumni of this prestigious school include Jia Zhangke (The World, A Touch of Sun, I Wish I Knew) and Chen Kaige (Farewell My Concubine, Yellow Earth).

BFA’s prestigious Youth Film Studio was established in 1979. It is one of the fiction film studios authorized by the state, and also the base for the teachers and students of the academy to practice their film and television art creations. The films produced by Youth Film Studio have won multiple domestic and international film and television awards. Since the studio was established, there have been more than 70 films that have won awards in various categories!
The Film and Television Experimental Center has 12 departments including Video Laboratory, Computer Network Teaching Classroom, Language Laboratory, multiple Film Halls, and videotape and lighting staff. This comprehensive facility is open for use for all students and contains plenty of room and resources to foster creativity in film.

As the only filmmaking school in China, and the best in Asia, BFA offers complete and comprehensive training in the world of cinematography. Students can study at six departments: Screenwriting & Film Studies, Directing, Cinematography, Film and TV Technology, Film Studies, and Basic Education.
The most popular majors are Performing Arts, Chinese Language, Cinematography, and Film Directing. Aside from the basics of directing, filming, and performing, Beijing Film Academy students will also deeply explore Chinese language and culture. 1- Exclusive film opportunities enrich student life
China’s cinematic world never rests–each year, there are many film festivals, awards, movie screenings, and many more ways for you to get involved in the film community! BFA, of course, plays a major role by participating in and organizing these events. In 2020, student representatives could participate in the 2020 Cross-Strait Film and Television Forum, a discussion of film and culture on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The annual Student Director Awards lets students showcase their self-directed films and incredible creativity, all judged by BFA leaders and other film professionals across China. BFA also hosts the annual The International Student Film and Video Festival.
BFA also hosts global filmmakers and directors from countries around the world to discuss their own experiences and filmmaking inspirations. Past guests have included James Cameron and Ang Lee! Alumni also return to campus to share their experiences producing films in major studios from Beijing to Hollywood.

BFA (Beijing Film Academy) is the only film academy in China and the largest film academy in Asia. Through 65 years’ development, it has built up a multidisciplinary and multilevel cultivation system that embraces the entire spectrum of film-making, including production, teaching, creation and research for training advanced film talents.
