Are you looking for student accommodation options at Fudan University? Did you know that Fudan’s dormitories are not only modern and well-equipped but also located in a vibrant neighborhood with countless cultural and social activities?
Hello, I am Alifia, a PhD student majoring in Public Management at the Institute of Global Public Policy, Fudan University. I would like to share my experience of living at Fudan University as an international student.
As you guys know, Fudan University is one of China’s most prestigious institutions, offering a variety of housing options to meet the diverse needs of its international student community.
Located in Shanghai, Fudan University is renowned for its academic excellence and vibrant campus life, making it a top choice for students worldwide.
I live in the Student Dormitory at Fudan University.
There are several types of accommodations: the main building, the affiliated building (also known as the sub building), and the Asian Youth Center building. International and local students live together in these areas, which is fantastic because you get to meet friends from all over the world.
The large building here is called the main building. It’s set up like a typical hotel, with single rooms and double rooms. You can choose your preference during the online registration when booking your dormitory.
Here’s what the inside looks like. In my opinion, the building and interiors are even cleaner in real life because it has just been renovated. With a newly renovated building, you’ll definitely enjoy living here.
It has all the amenities you need: study rooms, a kitchen on every floor, and laundry facilities. If you want your room cleaned, you can book a cleaning service for just 10 RMB, and someone will come to tidy up your room.
The second option is the Affiliated Building, also known as the Sub building. The main difference from the main building is that it has 7 floors and no elevator. This dormitory is designed like an apartment unit, with each unit consisting of 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. However, you will have your own bedroom. Here are some pictures.
I live in the Asian Youth Center building, which is similar to the sub building but with a different exterior color. The Asian Youth Center looks cleaner as it has also been recently renovated. This 7-floor building does not have an elevator either. I live with 3 other housemates; we each have our own room but share 2 bathrooms.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, so no need to worry!

Here are the overall facilities:

What about food? Don’t worry! It’s only a 3-minute walk from the dormitory to the canteen. The food at Fudan University’s cafeteria is very diverse. It offers not only East Asian cuisine but also Southeast Asian and Western food. The prices range from 7 Chinese yuan to 50 Chinese yuan.
Here’s a picture of the canteen:
If you need to pick up a package you ordered online, the location is also very close to the dormitory. Here’s a picture:
Comfortable, right?
Living here is enjoyable, don’t worry. Around the dormitory area, there are coffee shops, or if you just want to sit in the park while studying or exercising, you can do that too. There’s also a gym area you can use in your free time.
Fudan University’s student housing offers a secure, convenient, and supportive environment for international students. Whether you choose a dormitory room, an on-campus apartment, or an off-campus residence, you will find a community that supports your academic and personal growth. With its strategic location in Shanghai and a wide array of facilities, Fudan University ensures that international students have a memorable and enriching experience during their stay. I look forward to seeing you at Fudan University!
