In the opening remarks, Professor CHEN Yubo welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of “entrepreneurship” in the face of global changes. He highlighted the need for innovation, caring for humankind, and inclusion of diverse cultures. “Entrepreneurship is the engine of economic development. The mission of our EMBA programmes is to cultivate business leaders not only standing on the technology frontiers but also contributing to the development of our whole society,” said CHEN. CHEN also showcased how Tsinghua SEM EMBA has shouldered their social responsibilities by supporting the schools in the underdeveloped areas of China and helping the local communities consistently over many years.
“The TIEMBA programme fits really well with INSEAD’s mission – to bring together people, cultures and ideas from around the world and to help and empower leaders to establish bridges between nations and cultures by creating businesses together.” Professor PEYER Urs, Dean of Degree Programmes at INSEAD, also extended his warm welcome to the new participants and encouraged them to make full use of their learnings from the programme to advance business prosperity in a socially and environmentally sustainable and impactful way.
Welcoming its 17th cohort made up of 34 high-achieving executives, the TIEMBA programme has accumulated around 650 alumni from 49 different countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America, Oceania, and Africa. The students come from many diverse industry backgrounds, including finance, healthcare, technology, internet and information service, manufacturing, energy, retail and agriculture. 91 percent of the students are in management positions overseeing international business and 41 percent are female. For many years, TIEMBA has been consistently recognized among the top 100 EMBA programmes by Financial Times and the QS EMBA Joint Programmes. Known for its strong faculty, diverse international student body, and teaching philosophy and mode combining Chinese and Western styles, the programme seemlessly combines the best of local education resources with the diverse perspectives of global business schools.
Following the opening ceremony, Professor PEYER and Professor LU Yao, Deputy Head of Tsinghua SEM Finance Department, Academic Director of TIEMBA, hosted a TIEMBA programme introduction session to the new joiners to the TIEMBA community, to provide a more in-depth understanding of the programme and help the participants to prepare and to kick off their TIEMBA journey.
