On March 26, Beijing started offering domestically developed COVID-19 vaccines to foreigners. Those without the city-backed insurance scheme will pay 93.5 yuan ($14.29) per dose for the two two shots of the vaccine. Vaccination would be free for those covered by the insurance.
Foreign nationals aged 18 and above can take the vaccine under voluntary participation. They need to provide informed consent and assume personal responsibility for risks related to the vaccine.
Although Beijing did not identify which specific brands of vaccine will be used, the city announced that China’s domestic inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines will be used. Three of China’s four vaccines approved for public use are in the inactivated category. This includes the National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) and one from Sinovac Biotech.
Earlier in the week, Shanghai announced that it would offer foreigners vaccination, making it the first city in China to offer COVID-19 vaccines to non-Chinese.
