Located in Guangdong province southeast of its capital, Guangzhou, Shenzhen is strategically located in the Pearl River Delta which has a population of over 68 million people. It is one of the fastest developing regions in the world, with a GDP greater than South Korea.
The city shares a border with Hong Kong and is under 20 minutes from Kowloon by fast train. You can spend a day trip in Huizhou, Dongguan, and Macao, which are also nearby cities. Ranked by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as China’s top city for overall economic competitiveness, and the country’s premier Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Shenzhen’s foreign investment market is second to none. It houses the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), the 8th largest stock market in the world with a market capitalization of $3.36 trillion.
14,000 high-tech companies including tech giants Huawei, Lenovo, DJI and Tencent are located in Shenzhen. The city has rightfully earned the nickname as China’s Silicon Valley. With its investment-friendly policies, futuristic landscape and innovative vibe, millions of talents, tech graduates, entrepreneurs and multi-million corporations flock to Shenzhen every year.
But more than a glimmering proof of China’s economic miracle, Shenzhen also boasts of a vibrant metropolis with thriving arts, education, cuisine, music and nightlife. Shenzhen has a pleasant weather all year round. The city has a sub-tropical climate – so it’s very, very humid during the rainy season (April to October).
With a fast-growing economy, Shenzhen has a strong focus on quality higher education. The city has been working on building some of the best universities to come to Shenzhen and create a campus, and invest in facilities.
