Introduction to the Program
The Bachelor’s in English with International Business at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is a three or four year undergraduate degree program taught in English.

About the Program
This is a Major/Minor programme in which students take 240 credits from the School of English and 120 credits from the Nottingham University Business School. The Principle of language study established in the School of English combines theoretical and ideological dimensions with highly practical applications. Students will develop a good understanding of the nature and uses of English, in particular, in the contexts of entrepreneurship and business. This programme also provides a broad, thorough and fully-integrated education in the theory and practice of business management, with an additional emphasis in international business issues. Students develop an understanding of the way in which organizations might be made to operate more effectively in the modern world. The high level of English language skills, knowledge and analytical ability from English will provide students of Business Studies with an unique and highly competitive sent of skills.
Course Structure
Year One (Preliminary Year Programme) N.B. This year is not compulsory for those with appropriate qualifications for entry into year two.
The programme equips students with the language and study skills that they need to manage their studies independently and to meet the demands of their future academic course. The academic English language courses are provided by the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) and the content courses are organized by lecturers from various academic departments within UNNC. The Introduction to English at UNNC modules is non-credit bearing and is intended to be an intensive introduction to academic English and studying in an English-speaking environment. All other modules in are credit-bearing and students study a combination of academic English courses and content courses which are designed to develop the specific language and study skills they will need for their future degree course.
Year Two (Qualifying Year)
During the Qualifiying year of the programme (Year 2), the emphasis is on an understanding of how the English language works and, in particular, how English varies according to context and purpose. Students are introduced to the theory and practice of business management.
Year Three (Part I)
In the second year of the degree programme (Year 3), the focus is on a thorough understanding of communication in the context of entrepreneurship and business. Students develop the ability to apply interpretive techniques to a range of texts. They develop their understanding of the role of economics in decision making and learn the importance and techniques of marketing. Need a sentence from NUBS.
Year Four (Part II)
In the final year (Year 4), students will undertake a research project which would allow them to investigate how the English language functions in professional contexts, using some of the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills they would have acquired over the previous two years. They develop their understanding of strategy and strategic management: and the theory and application of human resource management. Need a sentence from NUBS.
Entry Requirements
Minimum English Requirement
In addition to academic requirements, students whose first language is not English or entry qualification was not obtained in the English medium are required to provide evidence of their proficiency in English.
To ensure that you can fully benefit from your studies at UNNC, you will need to demonstrate a required level of English language proficiency.
For Preliminary year (year one) entry
- IELTS 5.5 with the writing band no less than 5.0 or
- PTE Academic 55 (minimum 51)
For Qualifying year (year two) entry
- IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0 or
- PTE Academic 62 (minimum 55)
Students who have completed a recognised degree, or completed the whole of their secondary education in one of these countries within the last 10 years are not normally required to take a separate English language test.
Otherwise, in addition to the more common language qualifications – such as IELTS, TOEFL, (I)GCSE, O level, IB and A and AS level English – the University also considers a number of other English language qualifications for admission.
The minimum English language requirement for BA English Language and Applied Linguistics, BA English Language and Literature, and BA English with International Business is:
- IELTS 7.0 with each band no less than 6.0 or
- PTE Academic 67 (minimum 55)

Tuition Fees
The tuition fees are RMB80000 per year. The total for the 4 year program is 320000 RMB.
Accommodation
The University has several buildings designated for international students, building 11, 18 and 20. All rooms are fully furnished and equipped with air conditioning and a telephone and computer point; enabling students to make and receive telephone calls and access the University’s data network from their bedrooms.
