From July 1st to 3rd, a delegation of over a hundred high school students from multiple schools in Indonesia visited Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University for a series of campus tours and educational experiences.

Upon arrival at XJTLU University’s main campus, the students immediately embarked on an immersive journey into scientific exploration. A highlight of their visit was a live chemistry demonstration organized by the X-Global Office and the Department of Chemistry, School of Science. Stepping into well-equipped laboratories, the students encountered the distinctive scents of chemicals and observed complex scientific instruments. Guided by Senior Associate Professor Eric Amigues, they delved into the intricate process of synthesizing aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). Each step of the synthesis became a lesson in precision and scientific inquiry, evident in the hum of laboratory equipment and the focused expressions of the students. This engaging experience not only provided practical insights into pharmaceutical chemistry but also sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific exploration. In addition, it underscored XJTLU’s commitment to hands-on learning and academic excellence, leaving a lasting impression on the Indonesian local high schools’ students.

Subsequently, the students visited the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at XJTLU Liverpool University, where they interacted with faculty members. Dr. Shuyang Si from the and the Department of Economics, introduced them to key concepts in the field, facilitating their initial understanding of this discipline. Particularly noteworthy was the engagement facilitated by instructor Dr. Xinyi Zhou, Department of Strategic Management and Organisations, who used the game Jenga to introduce the concept of self-managed Team (SMT), igniting the students’ interest and active participation. Students divided into groups for this engaging and educational activity. Statistics indicate that several programmes at IBSS, such as International Business and Languages, Economics Finance, Marketing, and Business Administration, have consistently attracted international students. These programmes not only cultivate students’ professional knowledge but also establish a robust foundation for their future international careers.

In addition to touring the main campus (SIP Campus) and participating in classes, the students visited XJTLU’s Taicang Campus, also known as the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (XEC), for an in-depth exploration. As the hub for international students, particularly from Southeast Asia and notably Indonesia, the students eagerly anticipated this visit.

The campus tour became the highlight of the day, allowing visitors to familiarize themselves with the modern facilities at XEC, including classrooms, libraries, laboratories, cafeterias, student dormitories, and sports centers. Indonesian students particularly appreciated the meals offered at the cafeteria and actively participated in various sports activities at the sports center. The students were deeply impressed by the campus’s modern infrastructure and welcoming atmosphere. They particularly admired XEC for its emphasis on practical learning and entrepreneurial spirit, believing it will significantly influence their future careers.

In conclusion, the visit by Indonesian high school students to Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was a transformative experience, blending immersive scientific exploration with insights into international business education. From conducting chemistry experiments to exploring entrepreneurial opportunities at XJTLU’s campuses, the students gained valuable perspectives and skills that will undoubtedly shape their academic paths and future endeavors. This exchange not only strengthened cultural ties but also reinforced XJTLU’s commitment to fostering global education and innovation.
