2024 Tsinghua SEM TIEMBA Alumni Reunion Event Successfully Held

On April 26th, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management, the 2024 Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA (TIEMBA) alumni reunion event was successfully held at the Jianhua Building of Tsinghua University.

The event was organized by the TIEMBA programme, and co-organized by alumni from the TIEMBA 2016 and 2017 cohorts with Mr. Horace Cheng from the class of 2016 serving as host. The event attracted more than 70 alumni from 13 countries including well-known experts in various fields. Professor Bai Chong-En, Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and Dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management; Professor Xue Jian, Professor in Accounting and Deputy Dean of Tsinghua SEM; Professor Peter Joos, Professor in Accounting and Control, Deputy Dean and Dean of Faculty of INSEAD; Professor Lu Yao, Professor in Finance and TIEMBA Academic Director; Professor Chen Taotao, Professor in Finance at Tsinghua SEM and Director of Tsinghua University Latin America Center; Ms Jia Li, Director of the EMBA Programmes; and Ms An Jing, Assistant Director of the EMBA Programmes attended the event.

The alumni reunion forum on April 26 afternoon commenced with a welcoming speech by Professor Xue Jian, who introduced the recent developments and achievements of the School of Economics and Management. These included the inauguration of a new building, advances in teaching innovation, and enhancements in faculty strength, the school’s advisory board and its brand activities, along with the continued reform and innovation of the TIEMBA programme. Professor Xue Jian recognised that this year marks the 17th year since the launch of the TIEMBA programme. She expressed her sincere gratitude to INSEAD and TIEMBA alumni for their support of the programme, and looked forward to working together to create a better future.

In the keynote speech session, Professor Bai Chong-En conducted in-depth discussions with guests and alumni on the theme of Transformations in the Chinese Economy.

Professor Peter Joos’ keynote speech Topic is Credibility in Reporting on Sustainability. He combined the theme of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), with a discussion  on corporate sustainable development goals, framework setting and reporting. He detailed each step of the framework, emphasizing the importance of measuring external effects combined with case-studies of well-known global enterprises.

Professor Lu Yao moderated a roundtable discussion featuring Professor Chen Taotao, along with TIEMBA alumni Chris Tang, Tony Yuan, and Alexis Bonhomme, on the globalization of Chinese companies in the new era. The panelists noted that globalization introduces significant changes and challenges across industries. Key factors for successful international expansion include technology integration, infrastructure development, localized management, talent team building, and product design. They also expressed gratitude towards the TIEMBA programme for its strong networking resources, which have facilitated their integration into local business environments.
In the morning, a group of attendees visited Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone, Zhongguancun Medical Equipment Park, and the International Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Sino-Japanese Innovation Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Beijing.
To conclude the event the TIEMBA programme presented awards to alumni  in recognition of their outstanding contributions. The event’s success not only strengthened the close ties among TIEMBA alumni, but also showcased the positive role of the international programme of Tsinghua School of Economics and Management in building bridges between China and the global community, underscoring the determination of TIEMBA students to work together to contribute to the development of China and the world.
